Service conditions
A globe valve opens or closes its flow path through linear movement of a disc relative to the seat. Disc travel changes the opening at the seat. Throttling duty calls for suitable disc geometry and an assessment of flow demand, differential pressure and the pressure loss caused by changes in flow direction.
Construction and description
Match the operator to the valve load and site operating method. Manual operation needs accessible clearance. Frequent cycling or remote control also calls for assessment of output capability, duty and position feedback.
Welded ends must suit pipe material, wall thickness and the construction procedure. Heat effects, protection of internal seals and post-weld cleanliness are important. Set welding parameters and inspection methods for the actual materials and joint.
Service conditions
Elevated-temperature or steam service requires material limits to be considered with the pressure-temperature combination. Thermal cycling, seals and joint expansion influence service; account for warm-up, condensate management and maintenance access.
High-pressure duty requires combined assessment of pressure-containing parts, seat loading and operator demand. Connections, fasteners and bonnet joints must suit the pressure-temperature combination, with differential-pressure changes and erosion considered during operation.
