Service conditions

A check valve opens and closes automatically in response to fluid forces to restrict reverse flow. Its behavior depends on disc motion, velocity, differential pressure and installation orientation. Selection should consider flow changes and pump shutdown, balancing forward pressure loss against closing response.

A lift arrangement opens and closes through guided disc movement. Reseating may rely on gravity, a spring or reverse differential pressure, which determines orientation requirements. Check opening differential pressure and disc stability at low flow.

Flanged ends support piping interfaces and removal for service. Match flange standard, pressure designation, facing, gasket and fasteners, and check face-to-face length and pipe support to limit piping loads on the body.

Construction and description

Define fluid composition and continuous and start-stop operating conditions, then assess body, internals and seals as a combination. Particles, deposits and cleaning affect sealing surfaces and mechanisms; plan maintenance for the actual service.

Service conditions

For a vertical lift check valve, review pipeline flow direction, disc travel and installation orientation together. Flow must provide sufficient opening force; low or fluctuating flow can cause repeated disc movement. If a spring is fitted, preload and stiffness affect opening differential pressure and closing response and should suit the pump operating range and system transients.
